Easter is a holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, described in the New Testament the third day after his burial after his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary more than 2000 years ago.
Resurrection means a renewed faith between Christians and their author, as well as the forgiveness of sins.
In Ghana, Easter, like many other Christian festivals, has become synonymous with rejoicing, characterized by wild jubilations and excessive drinking.
As Ghana joins the Christian community to mark Easter, Nathaniel Nartey of GBC spoke with religious leaders to find the best way for Christians to celebrate the day of the resurrection.
Pastor Opuni Frimpong, former secretary general of Ghana's Christian Council, advised Ghanaians not to lose sight of the spiritual side of Easter, which is to reflect and meditate on one's relationship with God.
"It seems that some people want to collect all their dirty stuff at Easter, go to Kwahu and unfold them, but I think it's not good. I say that there are many who are considering Easter for the moment of spiritual renewal to get closer to God …. We must tackle that … The celebration must be moderate, but you sometimes have excesses where there is too much excesses. "
Apostle Richard Buafor, General Superintendent of the Pentecostal Church of the Lord in the World, asked Christians to use this opportunity as a time of reconciliation, just as Jesus Christ reconciled Christians with their author before his crucifixion
"I believe that the Easter period for a Christian should bring to reflect and meditate on the essence of the season. The essence of the season has to do with reconciliation with God … just as Christ came to reconcile us to God. "
For his part, the Chief Pastor of the International Church of the New Creation, Reverend Emmanuel Doh, said that Christians can rejoice at Easter, but that this should be done in moderation.
"We must reflect on the essence of Easter. We can be happy because it is a day when God sent his son to die for us. So we can be happy and celebrate, but it should be done in such a way that we do not go back and commit sins "
Almost all leaders interviewed by GBC hoped that Ghanaians would take advantage of the opportunity to move forward for the country's growth.
