Day flights will resume in the only airport in Tripoli in operation after the closure of the last month for security reasons, with the exception of overnight traffic, announced Monday the Libyan authorities at the airport.
"We have been ordered to open the airspace at Mitiga International Airport 24 hours a day," the airport said on its official Facebook page.
The Mitiga airport was closed daily between 6:00 and 15:00 (GMT) after the April 8 air attack claimed by the self-proclaimed Libyan national army of strong man Khalifa Haftar.
On April 4, Haftar launched an offensive to seize the capital Tripoli, the seat of the international government recognized Government of National Accord (GNA).
The airport was also closed for several hours Saturday night, resulting in the re-routing of at least two flights to Misrata, more than 200 kilometers (125 km) apart, with fighting intensifying after a counter-attack. attack forces loyal to the NLG and reports of new airstrikes.
The Haftar offensive is the latest round of fighting in a multi-year struggle for control of Libya as a result of the NATO-backed rebellion that overthrew and killed dictator Moamer Kadhafi.
The main airport of the capital was destroyed during the fighting in 2014.
Mitiga airport is located on a former military base on the outskirts of the city. He was forced to close several times because of clashes between militias last year.
