Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has declared that the metropolis of Tamale and its surrounding area could experience an increase in the water tariff.
This, he said, was due to irresponsible sand retrieval activities along the company's raw water intake point in Nawuni, a community in Kumbungu District.

Clifford Abdallah Braimah, General Manager of GWCL, announced this announcement Monday during his visit to one of the company's raw water collection points in Nawuni and at the water treatment plant Dalun, Kumbungu District, as part of his visit to the north of the country. He added that these irresponsible activities had polluted the body of water and that, if they were not regulated, the cost of raw water treatment would increase significantly, as would the tariffs. water would increase in the company's supply areas, including the metropolis of Tamale, Savelugu, Kumbungu and surrounding areas.

"The change in the color of the raw water from the point of water intake to Nawuni means that we need more chemicals than the original ones to purify them, which would increase our costs. and we would have to increase rates because we have to spend more to buy chemicals, "he explained.

Braimah appealed to chiefs and stakeholders in Dalun, Kumbungu District, to help regulate irresponsible sand-collecting activities along the company's raw water catchment avoid an increase in rates.

He stressed the need for national security to establish a military base in the Nawuni community to help control irresponsible sanding activities in the district, stating, "We can not let our customers suffer because of irresponsible activities other people".
