Origins is a recurring feature that asks musicians if they can explain the different inspirations of their new music.

After years of making a name for himself in the Blue Blazer group, freelance composer Los Angeles Jonny Shane launched a solo project in hopes of creating a "more direct, autobiographical" material in his own words. Modern Love Child is his new musical medium, and he has fashioned it with the Ben Kweller, whom he considers a friend and a model.

The first two met by chance in the LA district in Venice, then again all over the country in a Connecticut café. "I continued to meet Jonny in the most random places," Kweller said in a press release. "It was as if the universe was talking to us."

Shane and Kweller listened to the message of the universe and soon they worked diligently on Shane's first album, MLC. The album, scheduled for release later this year, is in preparation today with a song called "Just For Kids," co-written by Kweller.

As Shane tells Consequence of the sound, the title is inspired by a memorable trip he made with a friend:

"The song is inspired by my conduct on the coast, from San Francisco to Los Angeles, when I was just starting to fall in love with a girl I had begun to see romantically. The feeling that I had in my stomach of nerves and excitement was the same one that I had when I had a crush on girls when I was little. This is why the phrase "falling in love is not just for children".

Love, constant and devouring, is perfectly captured by the driving "Just for Kids", which can be broadcast below via its official video clip.

Shane gave more details on what sparked the creativity that led to "Just for the kids".

Pacific Coast Highway:

Drive along the California coast in all its beauty. There's a phrase, "I think I've been here before in one of my dreams." – On some sections of the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway), it literally looks like a dream. Late in the night, in the middle of nowhere, the man in the moon begins to feel like company. Towards the end of this quest, which inspired this song, the moon seemed brighter and bigger than normal. Or maybe it just seemed like that because I was with a beautiful girl. I'm pretty sure there is a word in French for the moon to reflect on the ocean, I do not know what it is in English, but when I was writing this song, that image was still engraved on me in the head.
