Samuel Atta Akyea, Minister of Public Works and Housing, said on Wednesday that the Saglemi housing project in Ningo-Prampram district, Greater Accra region, was facing serious problems that led to its closure.

He added that the necessary information, including measurement problems and financial problems, had been sent to the General Prosecutor's Department for advice as it limited contractual problems.

"The Seglemi structure that we see there is a problem … I can badure you that there are problems with the way in which the funds were faithfully applied to the project, issues on which the Attorney General should look, "he said. .

Speaking at the Meet-the-Press series in Accra, Atta Akyea said homes in its current state were uninhabitable because they did not have the infrastructure on site, especially the houses. a system of sewers, water and electricity.

He pointed out that it was wrong that the government refused to use about 1,500 units to reduce the deficit of more than two million homes in the country.

He said the constitution requires all new governments to continue projects initiated by the previous government.

Atta Akyea said that the former land, John Agyekum Kufuor, had acquired the land on which the project was built and that the government was ready and willing to ensure that the project was completed in its objective.

"It is costly to abandon the project because of the excessive costs, so this government will not deliberately abandon specific projects, a project that will reduce people's hardships. We have no choice but to carry out these projects, "he said.

Mr. Atta Akyea explained that after the approval by Parliament in October 2012 of the construction of 5,000 housing units to $ 200 million, the government of the time had reviewed the contract, reducing the number of units to about 1,500, then reduced to 1,024 units. another criticism in 2016.

"We have become aware of the questionable gap regarding the amount of the contract and the delivery of the housing units, and we believe that the badysis of the value for money presents difficulties. The contractor has diverted $ 129 million from the project funds, "he said.
