The bulk enrollment of the Ghana Card begins on April 29

The National Identification Authority (NIA) intends to register 85% of citizens aged 15 and over from April 29 to March 31 of next year, as part of its mbad registration exercise for the Ghana card.

The issuance exercise of the registration card for the Greater Accra region would begin Monday and end on Saturday, July 6, 2019, after which it would be extended to the rest of the country.

The exercise, which would last two weeks in each region, would begin in Volta and Oti on July 15, 2019, in the north, Savannah and northeast on August 13, 2019, from the East and West on September 12, 2019 in Bono. Bono East and Ahafo on October 10, 2019.

West and Northwest will take their turn on November 11, 2019, Ashanti on December 10, 2019, East and Center on February 12 and March 13, 2020, respectively.

The executive secretary of the NIA, Professor Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah, said this yesterday in Accra at a press conference on the beginning of the mbad recording exercise.

According to the Executive Secretary, citizens under the age of 15 would be registered and receive a two-dimensional Ghana Cards barcode after the registration deadline of citizens aged 15 and over.

In addition, he said citizens aged 15 and over would receive smart dual-interface smart cards that can be used in contact and contactless transactions.

Professor Attafuah added that the exercise of registration would be later extended to Ghanaians in the diaspora as a result of the completion of the national registration.

"The NIA will undertake this exercise in close collaboration with Ghanaian missions abroad and the office of diaspora relations to the presidency," he added.

He said that although the card is free for citizens of the country, Ghanaians living outside the country would pay fees for the card.

Professor Attafuah noted that the card was valid for 10 years, after which every citizen would be required to renew it for a fee, adding that "replacement of the card in case of loss or destruction at any time would also entail costs" .

He stated that it was mandatory for citizens to provide a true birth certificate, a valid Ghanaian pbadport or a citizenship certificate acquired as a registration requirement, as well as a certificate of citizenship. Ghana's digital address code without which citizens would not be allowed to register.

Professor Attafuah stated that family members with the card could vouch for citizens without one of the mandatory documents for sworn registration.

He noted that the presentation of fake documents and information for the registration and attestation of a non-citizen constituted offenses punishable by law, inviting citizens to be safe. ; abstain.
