Fire departments have expressed concern about the high height of wooden structures in the region
The second in command, the Tema Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), noted with concern the increasing number of wooden structures used as dwellings in Tema Metropolis and their vulnerability to fire.
"Most of the incidents we respond to come from these structures. So we advised the residents and intensified our education to combat widespread fires, "said D. O II Timothy Affum.
DO II Affum said this during an interview with the Ghana News Agency at the GNFS Regional Command in Tema, Tema, in response to the outbreak of the fire that cost the lives with three children in Community Two, Tema.
D. O. II Affum said his team currently has a team of firefighters moving from house to house to educate residents of communities 1 and 2, which were Tema areas with a high percentage of wooden structures.
The fire officer reported that most fires were the result of improper handling of open fire, which had escaped control and caused serious damage to life and property.
He advised the general public to refrain from using unqualified electricians to wire their homes, which could cause fires, explaining that "as soon as the power is restored after a power failure, a fire may occur." because of bad electrical wiring ".
D. O. II Affum stated that the primary form of fire prevention was to change people's attitudes and engage in fire prevention practices.
He added that since people living in such wooden structures can not afford fire detectors, the best approach to dealing with fire problems would be the best protection against fire.
DO II Affum stated that the GNFS undertook an internal training of fire officers to ensure that they were responsive to new firefighting trends in order to better inform the public on fire prevention and better fight against fires.
It will be remembered that the fire destroyed a wooden structure at the BBC, a neighborhood of the Tema Two community, which took the lives of three children who napped after school.
