The court for women and men in Sekondi, in the west of the country, sentenced a convicted baby thief to five years in prison with hard labor.

Rose Mawusi Fiaku, 42, was found guilty of stealing one-year-old Francis Mawusi Ahiabenu from the Takoradi market in the western region.

HAbena Akyen Doku, the president of the court, presided over the case and pronounced her sentence following the judgment rendered by the court at the hospital during the last hearing.

She pleaded guilty to the offense. Rose who cohabited with Lawson Lartey, 33, was trying to show proof of the results of her pregnancy to her concubine.

She searched the market on Friday, March 22, 2019 and stole the baby from a market woman.

The Market Circle in Takoradi has been plunged into a frenzy as a result of the news of a missing child, while the city still suffers from the kidnapping of three teenagers last year.

It was a CCTV attached to the office of the mortgage lending company in Ghana that captured the thin, fair and fairly short woman who was moving away with the baby hanging on her right hand.

Rose Mawusi Fiaku was arrested Tuesday at dawn on March 26, 2019 with Lawson Lartey, who was also charged with aiding and abetting a crime.

Lawson Lartey was released on bail and is scheduled to appear again in court on April 29, 2019.
