Jacob Osei Yeboah, Leader of the Ghana Independent Presidential and Parliamentary Candidate Association
The Independent Association of Candidates for the Presidency and Parliamentary Elections of Ghana (ICAG), composed of individuals with the objective of challenging various positions in the 2020 elections, had the opportunity to participate in the meeting of the Inter-Party Consultative Committee ( IPAC) last Wednesday in Accra.
This is the first time the Electoral Commission (EC) invites the group to participate in the discussion of election issues at the IPAC meeting.
Represented by its leader, Jacob Osei Yeboah (JOY), who participated in the presidential elections of 2012 and 2016, the badociation took part in the discussions which lasted about three hours.
Concern of the group
Prior to the meeting, Mr. Yeboah congratulated the EC leaders for inviting the badociation to participate in the IPAC meeting.
He said the EC's decision to include independent candidates at the meeting was a big step forward that would further create the platform for deeper engagement in electoral matters.
Yeboah said the badociation would take advantage of the IPAC meeting to voice concerns over some of the previous EC decisions in the elections.
He mentioned the EC's decision to allow political parties to vote and to offer the last posts to independent candidates only among the major concerns on which the badociation had the intention of To engage the EC.
IPAC discussion
At the meeting, attended by Mrs Jean Mensah, President of the EC, the political parties were informed of the preparations for the organization of a limited registration.
The EC reportedly proposed the organization of limited registration at the district level and online, but some political parties preferred to prefer that it be decentralized and conducted in polling stations.
There was also a discussion on the political party offices, which would have allowed the EC to let the parties know that the report was finished and that they would be made available to them.
