Three people, two men and one woman, were arrested for selling postpaid electricity meters in Kumasi.
They were arrested on Wednesday morning and kept in custody until Thursday, when they were released on bail pending further investigations. A fourth suspect, however, is on the run.
The arrest of the three is a result of information received by officials from the Kumasi Energy Distribution Service (PDS) regional office in Ashanti about the activities of some people who sold electricity meters bearing the company's logo. Ghana Electricity Company engraved them.

PDS's public relations officer said the company was losing revenue as a result of the sale, purchase, and installation of unauthorized electricity meters in the system.
He added that, through this illegal activity, some electricity consumers were using power on the blind side of the PDS because "black market" meters were neither captured nor recorded in the PDS systems.
He explained that such criminal activity was rampant in the region and was so damaging to the company's activity and called for a concerted effort to end the practice.
Baidoo warned the public not to buy electricity meters from unauthorized persons or dubious sources, as they may be involved in the theft themselves.
He added that if this unexplained energy consumption related to stolen meters continued, the company would have no choice but to increase the current cost of energy to make up for it. the losses incurred, to the extent that the company was not able to solicit a loan to compensate for the loss. income earned as a result of illegal use of electricity.
He called on the police and the judiciary to continue to support the PDS in order to arrest and prosecute the people who engaged in the illegal sale of electricity meters.
