Once upon a time Netflix did not know what the word "canceled" meant, but now they are lowering the ax on the left, right and center.
Drew Barrymore's zombie-themed black comedy Santa Clarita Diet is the last program canceled by the streaming service, Netflix confirming that the third season of the show would be the last.
"The world has never known a" zom-com "until that Santa Clarita Diet, and we are grateful to the creator Victor Fresco for bringing this idea to Netflix, "said a Netflix spokesperson in a statement (via Variety).

"To their credit, the incredible Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant were totally crazy, with a strange talent for the comedy that brought Sheila and Joel Hammond to a vibrant life, even if one of them was undead.
"We thank Victor, Drew and Timothy, along with fellow executive producers Tracy Katsky, Aaron Kaplan, Chris Miller and Ember Truesdell, as well as the terrific cast including Liv Hewson and Skyler Gisondo, and the team's three hilarious seasons for Netflix members to discover for years to come. "
But while Netflix's statement is full of typical public relations praise for the now-dead show, the statement by creator Victor Fresco and his other director, Tracy Katsky, is much more interesting.
"Like our audience, we were all about Sheila and Joel," they said. "Their relationship, in the face of incredible adversity, was a source of inspiration for writing and watching.Most of the time, they were fun, which is important in a comedy.
"Netflix has taken a chance on this strange show and we will always be grateful for it, they supported us, always positive and appreciated our work until today, around noon.
"Yet they were more than just a phone call from a perfect studio – not bad – it all ended – it was one thing – and it's over."

"We will miss it, but we are proud of the work we have done and will always appreciate the love and enthusiasm of our audience," the statement said. "If it suits them, Sheila and Joel would continue for another 10,000 years."
We do not know yet if there is a chance that another outlet will grab it, or if the duo will get Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant to work on something else. But there is always a chance, and we would like that.
Santa Clarita Diet seasons one to three are now available for streaming on Netflix.
