Sony's smartphone shipments halved in 2018

Sony as a whole is profitable, but the mobile department has declined quarter on quarter. The company has delivered 6.5 million smart phones in 2018, compared with 13.5 million copies in 2017. In other words, shipments have been reduced by more than half.

Mobile business lost nearly 3.5 billion Swedish crowns in the last quarter of last year. The loss throughout the year is approximately 8.3 billion SEK. A month ago, Nikkei said that Sony plans to halve the number of smartphones by March 2020. According to the Xperia blog, Sony Mobile will leave several regions such as South America and the Middle East.
