Richard Harrison Lartey, of Ghana, now hopes to have another shot for a world title
Richard Harrison Lartey, of Ghana, missed the opportunity to revive his career after being knocked out by the British Daniel Duboi at the SSE Arena in Wembley on Saturday.
In Saturday's fight, the British improved their record (11-0, 10 KO) by eliminating Harrison in the fourth round, winning the WBO Global heavyweight belt in a series without defeat.
Lartey (14-2, 11 KO) had sometimes resisted and had managed some powerful shots that repelled Dubois.
But in the fourth, Dubois hit a huge right hand that dropped Lartey, who struggled to get up and the 10-round bout was interrupted in a disappointing moment for the latter.
Richard Lartey only arrived in Britain two days before the fight, because of the delay in obtaining a British visa.
Lartey built an international profile after defeating champions from Burkina Faso and Kenya, but Dubois was far too busy and dominating for a boxing fighter for the first time in Europe.
Dubois has recently been ordered to face Joe Joyce in a British heavyweight duel, but it is unclear whether the match will actually unfold – despite the announcement by the British Boxing Board of Control of A contract.
Dubois wants the fight to happen, but Joyce has much more ambitious goals in mind – like world title shots.
Both Dubois and Joyce are promoted by Frank Warren.
