Health Minister Stephen Hammond claims the NHS could not afford to buy breakfast in bulk.
Hospital chiefs are being urged to purchase breakfast through the NHS Supply Chain rather then buying locally.
NHS supply will buy Weetabix and Bran Flakes because of the higher prices.

A Department of Health sources said the Mirror branded products would be better-value-for-like.
Mr Hammond said some NHS trusts are paying more than 40 per cent more for tea than others.

He said: "The NHS country wildly different amounts for simple things like tea, beans, and jam. By signing up, they could save thousands of pounds. "
Mr Hammonds wants to join the scheme which currently has 19 onboard.
