Cleaning Anglogold The gold mining company donated garbage cans after cleaning

AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem (AAI) Gold Mines undertook a five-hour clean-up exercise in Teberebie, one of its host communities, to clean up the entire garbage community.

The people of Teberebie came in large numbers to help the mining company's staff weed the roads and sweep the entire community.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the end of the exercise, Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, Senior Sustainability Officer, said that the exercise was part of the activities of the Company to commemorate World Malaria Day, which falls each year on April 25th.

He added that Teberebie was selected for this exercise because of its strategic location and hoped it would be a model community for environmental cleanliness.

Mr. Baidoo said that they would work closely with the Municipal Health Directorate and the Assembly to develop and implement programs to improve the well-being of the people.

He congratulated the leader of Teberebie for his personal involvement in the active participation of his people in the exercise.

Emmanuel Affelkum, city health director in Tarkwa-Nsuaem, added that regular cleaning exercises would help community members make sure their environment is always tidy.

He thanked the company for its support in promoting quality sanitation in their operational areas.

Nana, Dr. Adarkwa Bediako III, Apinto Gyasehene and the Malaria Ambbadador, said the ultimate goal was to create a malaria-free environment.

He also went to individual houses in Teberebie to find out if they were using treated mosquito nets that AAI Gold Mines had distributed to them.

Apinto Gyasehene promised to reward those who used mosquito nets and encouraged others to do the same.

Nana Kojo Minah II, Chief of Teberebie, thanked AAI Gold Mines and urged his community to clean up their immediate environment of their personal responsibility.

AAI Gold Mines has presented 75 bins to health facilities, schools and communities in its catchment area.
