A parrot in Brazil was taken into custody for warning his drug trafficking owner that police were about to launch a raid – shouting "Mom, police!" In Portuguese.

According to New York Postthe green-feathered watchdog started screaming as soon as officers showed up at his home in Teresina, in the east of the country. United Kingdom independent reported.

"He must have been trained for this," a police officer involved in the operation told the newspaper. "As soon as the police came near him, he started screaming."

The big, loyal mouth, whose name was not reported, was seized by cops and placed in a wire cage in a local police station.

But the bird refuses to sing like a canary.

"Until now, no sound has been emitted," said a local journalist, according to a newspaper.

The owner of the parrot, known as India, had already been arrested twice for drug trafficking. Her husband, known only as Edvan, 30, was arrested during the attack when police discovered crack cocaine, marijuana and large amounts of cash at home.

Authorities believe that the parrot was trained to spot police cars.

The parrot was then taken to the Teresina Zoo.
