Raheem Sterling wins PFA young player of the year after a magnificent season

The superb season of Raheem Sterling for Manchester City earned him the prize of the young player of the year PFA.

Pep Guardiola's triple runners remain in the running for a memorable championship title this season, after arguing with Liverpool for the campaign crown.

City recovered first place in the Premier League on Sunday with a 1-0 win at Burnley. He now has one point ahead of his rivals with only two games to play for each team.

Sterling played a vital role in the title race and was one of two City players to be on the list of six finalists for this distinction. His teammate Bernardo Silva joined him.

But it was the superstar of England who collected the coveted Sunday trophy at Grosvenor House in central London, after a season in which he showed all his power.

He has earned praise this season for his impressive performance on the field and for playing an active role in highlighting the persistent problem of football in racism.

Sterling have scored 17 Premier League goals this season, four behind Liverpool striker and Golden Boot pioneer Mohamed Salah.

The former Liverpool winger also earned 10 badists, including his teammate of City, Leroy Sane, who won the award last season.

The 24-year-old won the trophy ahead of Silva, Marcus Rashford of Manchester United, Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool, David Brooks of Bournemouth and Declan Rice of West Ham.

Sterling, who became the Etihad fan favorite after coming to Liverpool in 2015, was also in contention for the title of player of the year.
