Nine men from the fishing community of Edrakpota, in the plains of Afram, in the East region, are accused by the police of using children for fishing and for fishing. dangerous work.
The deputy public relations officer of the eastern region police, Francis Gomado, said police intelligence revealed that there were 11 alleged child traffickers and 24 children being held for trafficking.
He added that some of the boat owners working on Lake Volta had been informed of the rescue mission and had hidden the children before the arrival of the police team.
However, the nine arrested men will be questioned to help in the pursuit of the investigation.
Local MP Betty Krosbi Mensah said the security forces had created panic with the relief mission.
"The action of uniformed security guards sparked fear and panic, pushing women and children into the bush. We can not know where seven of the children who escaped into the bush were 24 hours after this unfortunate incident, "she said.
The MP called "the high police command at the regional and national levels of the East to urgently intervene to find and locate the missing children with their parents."
She states that "the nine arrested residents should be released with immediate effect and require immediate responses regarding the identity of the person who ordered the unlawful arrest of the nine residents and for what reasons / offense".

MILITARY MEN CHILDREN CHILDREN IN PLAINS OF AFRAM AT STYLE RAMBOO
On Saturday, April 27, 2019, between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm, four (4) speedboats carrying men in military and police uniform with one (1) white woman traveled to some communities of the Plains Island. ; Afram. North District without any provocation in the middle of gunshots and at the same time, arrested nine (9) of my constituents.
The incident occurred in Edrakpota, one of the communities on the island of Didja, which has 86 communities.
The actions of uniformed security guards sparked fear and panic, pushing women and children into the bush.
One can not locate the tracks of seven (7) children who fled into the bush 24 hours after this unfortunate incident.
No explanation has been provided to explain the act and no one knows who ordered the arrest, as contact with the Afram and Abotiase Plains police proved futile.
The situation has created a state of anxiety in communities affected by parents' anxiety about the whereabouts of their children.
My efforts as a local MP for police responses have not worked.
The action of men in uniform can only be described as kidnapping.
Allow me to take this opportunity to appeal to the High Command of the police, at the regional and national levels in the East, to urgently intervene to find the missing children and transfer them to their parents.
The nine arrested residents must be released with immediate effect.
I also require immediate answers about who ordered the unprofessional arrest of the nine residents and for what reasons / offense.
Thank you.
