The remains of the late Major-General Francis Vib-Sanziri arrived in Ghana Sunday
The remains of the late Major-General Francis Vib-Sanziri, Chief of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), arrived in the country from Israel , Sunday.
The body was received at the VIP section of Kotoka International Airport in Accra around 11pm.
The body was received by the Armed Forces of Ghana (GAF) during a short prayer ceremony led by the clergy of the Armed Forces of Ghana.
Officials present at the ceremony included the Chief of the Defense Staff, General Obed Boamah Akwa, Chief of Staff of the Army, Major General William Azure Ayamdo, Chief. of the Navy Staff, R / Adm Seth Amoama, Chief of the Air Staff, AVM Frank Hanson and the Chief of Staff of the GHQ – Major-General Thomas Oppong-Peprah.
Government officials, including Defense Minister Dominic Nitiwul and Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, Minister of Foreign Affairs Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, were also present.
The general director of social affairs of the Ghanaian police and the widow COP Beatrice Vib-Sanziri were also at the airport with members of their family to welcome the body.
The body was then sent to the military hospital 37.
Funeral and funeral arrangements should be announced shortly by GAF after consultation with the deceased family.
Major-General Vib-Sanziri was appointed by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in October 2017 to head the multinational force.
He was Director General of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) from 2015 to 2017.
Major-General Vib-Sanziri died suddenly at the age of 62 on Friday, April 19, 2019 in Eilat, Israel.
