Edward Adeti, Starr FM reporter (left) and Rockson Bukari, Minister of State for the presidency
Rockson Ayine Bukari, the state minister in the presidency, has to resign because "we can not trust him," said a high-ranking journalist based in the Upper East region, Edward Adeti.
Mr. Bukari was caught on a tape that was trying to bribe the Starr FM reporter for that he was killing an article against a judge and a Chinese mining company while he was minister of the Upper East region.
He denied the bribery allegation in a statement Sunday, insisting that he only intervened.
"For the avoidance of doubt, the Minister's approach to litigation with Edeti is typical of his approach to peacemaking in situations; reputation as a judge from the region where he had served as minister, "said a statement from his office.
The reporter responded to his statement by claiming his head because he was peddling the lie.
"I think the minister should rather react to the warning issued against him by Tongo Rana yesterday for conveying a message that Tongo Rana now declares in a press release that he did not not sent to the reporter. With all due respect, I think the minister should resign. How could you sink so low with a ragged statement like this! You can not trust! You have demonstrated that you are not fit to be there! Said Adeti.
Below is his complete statement:
MY REACTION TO A PRESS RELEASE APPROPRIATE ROCKSON BUKARI, MINISTER OF THE STATE PRESIDENCY, AND WHY I THINK IT RESULTS TO RESIGN
I just read a press release that would have been issued by the Office of the Minister of State, Rockson Bukari. While it is true that the statement comes from his office and that he has read it carefully before it is published, no public office can be entrusted to him.
First of all, I do not call Edward Edeti. The name of the journalist mentioned in this statement is Edward Edeti. The press release does not quote the press house for which "Edward Edeti" works. I am Edward Adeti. But, without admitting that I am the journalist that the cabinet of the state minister calls "Edward Edeti", I wish to deliver a simple reaction to this statement purporting to come from the minister. I will take it paragraph by paragraph.
The first paragraph says that I have disclosed the tape to the public. I did not disclose the tape to the public. I challenge the minister to produce evidence to support the request. The same paragraph says that the phone conversation between the minister and me lasted more than 4 minutes and 22 seconds. I put it heavily so that the original recording lasts exactly 4 minutes 22 seconds. When he will appear in front of the police as soon as he has learned, the truth about the duration of this recording will further embarrbad him.
The second paragraph says that I have investigated documents that were allegedly handed over to Judge Jacob Boon by a party. Throughout my recorded interviews with the officials of Shaanxi Mining Ghana Limited, I have never investigated any documents allegedly given to Judge Jacob Boon. I have my rough tape evidence to support my claim that I have never conducted such an investigation. I hereby challenge the Office of the Minister of State to produce evidence in support of the Minister's request.
The third paragraph indicates that the Minister was informed that the documents in question had been delivered in accordance with the judge's request in open court. I do not know if the judge has already made this request in open court and if he did, did he ask Shaanxi officials to take the documents to his home where I spotted them four times on different days? I also challenge the minister to mention the names of those who informed him that the documents had been submitted in accordance with the judge's request in open court. The paragraph also says that "the other party" sponsored the reporter. Did a party sponsor the journalist? What kind of sponsorship is the minister talking about? And I challenge him to produce proof of sponsorship. I also urge the other party to invite the minister to support this particular allegation.
The fourth paragraph of the Minister's press release indicates that his intervention was intended to warn the journalist not to harm the judge's reputation unfairly and unfoundedly. Throughout my investigative interactions with the Minister, his position was not intended to warn anyone to damage the judge's reputation, as evidenced by the soundtracks. His position and remarks were about negotiating with Shaanxi officials to convince the reporter to drop the story, as is clear from the video.
The fifth paragraph seeks to say that the reporter himself stated that Shaanxi officials had "difficult hands" and that the statement as well as some of the reporter's comments and answers had been omitted from the recording. I've spent the raw tape of my phone to friends and police who can attest to the fact that the tape originally lasts 4 minutes 22 seconds and that there is no Meme it has no part in the tape where the reporter is heard that the Shaanxi officials had ". It is the minister himself who is heard saying "their hands are hard". The tape lasts 4 minutes 22 seconds and nothing is added or subtracted. The telecommunication company that hosted our conversation will exhibit it when the case will arrive in court.
According to the sixth paragraph, the journalist allegedly made requests from Shaanxi officials for what he had been denied because of previous work. I challenge the minister to produce evidence that the journalist has made requests. I challenge the minister to produce evidence that the journalist has ever done work for Shaanxi officials for whom the journalist had made demands. I challenge him to mention those who said the journalist made these requests. Perhaps he can not quote their names just as he said that Tongo Rana had told him to tell the reporter to drop the story and that after Tongo Rana dissociated himself from this statement yesterday he (the minister) was not able to defend his case. claims in public. And if he apologizes to Tongo Rana for what he said in the tape, it would only mean that he (the minister) is a liar and can not be trusted for anything.
The seventh paragraph says that the minister warned the journalist against taking bribes. Even an elementary school child who listens to this tape can say that the minister is the one who shamelessly promises to negotiate a bribe that the journalist never asked to kill.
The eighth paragraph is to defend the judge. My facts are still valid. Shaanxi officials held ex parte meetings with the judge and, after being arrested by the journalist, Rockson Bukari facilitated attempts at corruption. They brought five thousand Ghanaian cedis and a brand new motorcycle. Rockson Bukari in one of the gangs told the reporter that he had taken five thousand Ghanaian cedis from the general manager of Shaanxi. These are the same five thousand Cédis from Ghana that they brought to the journalist in his office in Bolgatanga.
The same minister who, in this tape, said that Tongo Rana (Talensi's supreme leader) had asked him to tell the journalist to drop the investigation and that Tongo Rana issued a disclaimer contrary to his statement no matter who. Those who drafted the statement on his behalf were so desperate that they did not even name their target. I think the minister should rather react to the warning issued against him by Tongo Rana against him for conveying a message that Tongo Rana said in a press release that he did not not sent to the reporter. With all due respect, I think the minister should resign. How could you sink so low with a ragged statement like this! You can not trust! You have demonstrated that you are not fit to be there!
I am an EDWARD … not a COWARD!
