United Kingdom: Caledonian Sleeper, the night train operator from London to Scotland, has put into service the first of its new fleet of CAF coaches on April 28th.
Mk V vehicles built in northern Spain are first used on the Lowlander London route to Glasgow and Edinburgh. the Highlander route between London and Aberdeen, Inverness and Fort William should be operated with new vehicles by the end of May.
Caledonian Sleeper has also launched a "Dream Big" marketing campaign on digital and outdoor advertising platforms to attract new pbadengers to this revitalized service.
The operator seeks to compete with the cost of a flight and a hotel, trains being designed to provide a hotel-style environment, including double beds and options with private restrooms and showers. The traditional method of ticket sales per pbadenger is partly replaced by the sale by compartment.

The new fleet of 75 cars of five types was ordered by Serco in March 2015 at a cost of about 200 million euros, after winning the contract to operate the Caledonian Sleeper service for 15 years as of April 2015. This order was funded by the Caledonian Sleepers Rail. Leasing Ltd, a subsidiary of Lombard North Central plc, with a capital grant of £ 60 million from the Scottish Government and £ 50 million from the UK Government.
The interior designer, Ian Smith, oversaw the style of the cars, the motifs reflecting the theme of "contemporary Scotland". Dellner couplers are equipped and should allow a smoother and quieter ride, while avoiding shunters climbing the tracks when trains separate and meet.
