Danny Murphy insists that Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is not faultless – and remembers when Steven Gerrard and Michael Owen suffered the same fate in Liverpool.
De Gea is widely regarded as the best goaltender in the world, but three huge mistakes in United's last four games have raised serious questions about his place in the eleventh Red Devils start.
Chelsea was the last club to benefit when the Spaniard lost to Marcos Alonso in the 1-1 draw against Sunday at Old Trafford.
This costly mistake, following notorious mistakes against Barcelona and Manchester City, has drastically undermined the modest hopes of the United States – and Murphy suggests it might be time to move De Gea to the pattern.
De Gea's mistake proved costly
He told talkSPORT: "It was a very serious mistake; that changed the dynamics of the game and deflated Manchester United.
"This raises a larger point: is a player unbeatable? You should never be in a position where a player is unbeatable.
"De Gea still has a year of contract and we do not know if he wants to leave or not.

"He must have a conversation with his manager. If he says, "I'm in it, I'm about to sign, I want to be here," then you let him in.
"If he wants to leave, then maybe it's time to get him out of the line of sight."
For Murphy, a "kick in the back" can have a positive effect on performance – just as was the case when former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier dropped Gerrard and Owen.

At their peak, the two former English stars were considered untouchable at Anfield, but none were at the bench's shelter.
Murphy continued, "I remember Michael Owen not having participated in the League Cup final. Robbie Fowler and Emile Heskey played at the front.
"Michael was furious and rightly so because he was the man at the time. He came back and scored two goals in the FA Cup final and one in the UEFA Cup final.
