The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have finally defined the scope of the National Peace Council's dialogue on the dissolution of party militias.
In a press release issued on Monday, the Council states that both sides have decided to involve key actors and experts in the discussion process.
The release was signed by the two presidents – Samuel Ofosu Ampofo for the NDC, Freddie Blay for the ruling NPP and Nana SKB Asante of the National Peace Council.
The parties agreed that the discussion process will include representatives of religious organizations, civil society organizations (CSOs) and security agencies.
"After an open and exhaustive deliberation, the parties agreed on the immediate scope of the dialogue. In this regard, the parties agreed to begin a discussion on the elimination of vigilance with other key stakeholders and experts.
"These stakeholders should include representatives of civil society organizations, security agencies and religious institutions," the statement said.
