Sanitation is a major challenge in the country
The Chiefs of Mission Spouse Association has organized a program to empower children in the community of Jamestown to fight environmental waste, including plastic waste.
The Association's program, in collaboration with the Jamestown Café and the environmental group Plastic Punch, is part of efforts to observe World Earth Day 2019.
Children were encouraged to buy their food in the form of herbal leaves rather than polyethylene and to drink calabashes in order to stay healthy and preserve the environment from plastic waste.
A documentary was presented to enable them to play the role of ambbadadors against waste, which also warned commercial vehicles against the dumping of waste on the streets.
Other activities commemorating Earth Day included promoting the full use of solar energy, eliminating the use of plastics and separating waste into recyclable waste and compost waste.
