WV health officials confirm a case of paralyzing disease in the state

MOUNDSVILLE, West Virginia (WTRF) – The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources has confirmed a case of polio-like illness.

The disease would have paralyzing symptoms, affecting the spinal cord and brainstem, and could be fatal.

This is the first case confirmed in West Virginia this year.

There have been only three confirmed cases in the Mountain State since health officials started following the disease in 2014.

Health officials confirmed 228 cases of this disease in the country last year.

No details have been published to date on the patient or his location.
