DANGER, KY. (WVLT / WYMT) – Kentucky residents looking to cover their tattoo scars may not be able to do so thanks to the proposed new regulation.
The Ministry of Public Health's new proposals are aimed at keeping Kentucky's tattoo shops clean, but some of the store's employees are unhappy, reported WYMT, a subsidiary of CBS.
"It's the only way for these people to move forward in life," said Draven Gayheart with Lost Gypsy Tattoo. "Camouflage this constant reminder of what they have experienced."
Gayheart refers to the fact that some people choose to cover their tattoo scars. Under the new regulations, this will not be allowed.
"My wife had a lot of her biceps removed, she was wearing a big scar, and she hid it for half of her life," he said. "It has been transformed into something of beauty now."
The Cabinet of Health and Family Services has issued a statement:
"Regulation in this area has not been updated for about 15 years." The Ministry of Public Health (DPH) has tabled the proposed new regulation this month, and public comment will be accepted until the end of the year. At the end of May, a public hearing is scheduled for May 28.
