At the international level, the theme of the day is "Uniting workers for social and economic progress".

In Ghana, organized workers chose the following theme: "Sustainable pensions: the role of the social partners".

At the international level, conferences and various activities will mark the day around the world.

At the national level, a parade of workers will begin early in the morning of May 1, from Obra Square to Kwame Nkrumah Circle to Black Star Square.

While congratulating the Social Security and Social Security Fund (SSNIT) for posting the pension formula on its website, Kotei said the formula lacked defined parameters to make it easily understandable for workers.

"This has made the formula still mysterious for most workers," he added.

Mr Kotei again congratulated the SSNIT on its policy of paying minimum pensions.

Currently, the minimum pension is about 300 GH ¢.

Mr Kotei said that this policy has made Ghana's retreats one of the best in the sub-region.

However, workers in the country do not benefit because of the economic challenges facing the country, which leads to an erosion of wage gains for all workers.

Kotei praised the workers who had faced the biggest economic challenges for most of the year and had been sacrificed to work, even as the value of their resources dwindled.

He also congratulated the country's employers who had respected the unions and cooperated with them during difficult times.

Productivity / overtime tax

Looking forward, Kotei said the government should deal with taxes on overtime allowances.

He asked the workers to be productive as "productivity determined by well-being".
