Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, Minister of the Environment, Science and Technology, threatened to close a toilet paper roll manufacturing business in Bawjiase in the Central Region due to poor waste management practices .
During a visit to the region, the minister discovered that the factory, which makes rolls of Bobo toilet paper, dumped its waste in the Ayensu River.
Expressing his dissatisfaction with the changing situation, Professor Frimpong Boateng said that he would entrust the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with the task of solving the problem.
"Although the plant offers jobs to some Ghanaians, it can not jeopardize the process of waste disposal," said Professor Frimpong Boateng.
The minister nevertheless congratulated the company on relying on local materials to produce rolls of toilet paper, but expressed dissatisfaction with the well-being of the workers at the plant, adding that it should give priority to well-being of workers.

"Patient records of Tamale Central Hospital, Sunyani Regional Hospital, Ministry of Health receipts and vouchers from neonatology departments of Sunyani Municipal Hospital have all been brought here to be made into toilet paper, "he said.
"The boiler that produces steam at the plant must be changed and adopt the modern method of steam production. The toilets in the pit latrines are also dirty and are closer to the river. I'm sure he was diverted somewhere in the river, which we may not see unless we can ask questions and answer them, "added Professor Frimpong Boateng.
