Andy Murray has officially until June 18 to apply for a Wildcard at Wimbledon – but the All England Club would be willing to give him more time to play in his home Grand Slam.
The double champion last played at SW19 in 2017 – and underwent a second hip surgery in January.
His mother, Judy, said the former world number one is "optimistic with caution" about returning this summer, but no date has been set.
Murray has the right to compete in nine ATP tournaments – and he has already used four.
If he's fit to play singles or doubles at Wimbledon, he could apply for a wildcard as a former champion to back up his protection ranking entries for other events.

Wimbledon starts on July 1, but the committee meeting to decide on wildcards takes place on June 18. The draw will take place on June 28th.
And Wimbledon President Philip Brook said, "There is no discussion with him yet. It is too early to know the answer to this question.
"If he wanted to ask for a wild card, he would do it normally and we have a regular meeting on June 18 before the championships to decide which players will receive wildcards.

"We have a process that applies to all the players competing in the championships and that's the process I'm waiting to follow."
Richard Lewis, Managing Director of Wimbledon, added, "We have had cases in the past. I think a few years ago we had a player who was treating an injury and who was not sure if he was fit.
"If Andy came with a solid case, I'm sure we would work with him."
