NCA Ends Public Commitment to Regulate to Improve Telecom Operator Services

On Tuesday, April 30, 2019, the National Communications Authority (NCA) concluded a series of public consultation workshops aimed at collecting information in order to draft a new regulation.

The new regulation will help improve the quality of service provided by telecommunication networks in the country.

The workshop at the Palm Royal Beach Hotel follows two successful consultations with consumers in Kumasi and Tamale.

The consultations should allow the ANC to gather useful information that will be used to draft regulations to push the networks to improve their quality of service. The ultimate goal is to respond to consumer concerns.

At the public consultation workshop held in Accra, Accra, NCA's Deputy Director General for Technical Operations, Henry Kanor, said it had become necessary to develop a regulatory framework. in terms of quality of service to reflect the technological progress made.

This, he said, is very limited in the NCAs because of the outdated KPIs on Quality of Service.

He added that once the new regulation would be approved by the authorities, it would improve the operation and performance of interconnected networks while allowing the ANC to implement a quality of service framework.

According to him, the framework will allow the quality of service provided by the service providers to be measured, reported and published on the basis of the defined parameters as stated in the regulations.

After successfully engaging the public from different parts of the country, the NCA should begin further consultations with service providers, after which they will consolidate any changes to facilitate the processing of the project for review prior to approval.
