Afenyo-Markin, Member of Parliament for Effutu
Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin justified the controversial remarks by Deputy Foreign Minister Yaw Osafo-Maafo, suggesting that the trial of "queen of galamsey" Aisha Huang had been jeopardized for preserve Ghana's bilateral relations with China.
Yaw Osafo Maafo, speaking in front of a city hall in the United States, said that the imprisonment of the Chinese national, tried for illegal mining, would not have made happy neither the Ghanaians nor the government, because that would not have not solve the economic problems of Ghana.
He noted that the two countries had good relations and that when Aisha-like issues arise, "a lot of things are happening in the background". Critics have therefore criticized the government for allowing a Chinese "criminal" for favors in the form of contracts such as Sinohydro, which the prime minister has cited as one of the agreements reached by the two countries.
But MP Effutu says that the words of the Prime Minister have been taken out of context, as sometimes happens in the communication.
"Sometimes, in communication, the media choose you out of context or sometimes by pointing out that it could be misinterpreted," the MP told TV3 New Day on Tuesday.
He claimed that Osafo-Maafo had never said that the government did not wish to sue Aisha because of the Sinohydro agreement.
According to him, Osafo-Maafo meant that it was not in the interest of Ghanaians that the government waste time pursuing Aisha instead of growing the economy.
"Osafo-Maafo said that we are focusing on relationships and issues that will feed our table rather than tackling small issues," he said, saying the message was clear enough so that all could l & # 39; enjoy.
He added that the "behind the scenes" talks the Prime Minister was talking about had nothing to do with the $ 2 billion Sinohydro affair that could be linked to the Aisha Huang affair.
