SAN RAFAEL, California, May 1, 2019 / PRNewswire / – May is Melanoma Awareness Month, a national initiative to raise awareness about a life-threatening illness that affects people of all ages, gender and ethnic backgrounds. It is estimated that 1 in 27 men and 1 in 40 women will develop invasive melanoma in their lifetime. In May, AIM with Melanoma launches a national melanoma awareness campaign, #NaturalSkinRocks. The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness about the severity of melanoma by emphasizing the importance of protecting your skin and early detection of potential melanomas. The slogan of the campaign, You only have one skin. Protect it. Cherish it. Protect it. focuses on four key messages:
- You only have one skin: like the skin in which you find yourself-messages aimed at young women and the importance of loving the complexion with which you were born vs. trying to change that complexion.
- You only have one skin: protect it– Messages focused on knowledge of melanoma as well as tips and facts about detection.
- What I want you to know about melanoma-The words of wisdom of melanoma survivors and those who have lost a loved one because of melanoma are intended to raise awareness about the severity of melanoma and to dispel the myth that it is only about skin cancer".
- Men and Melanoma – Messages targeting middle-aged and older men and those who love them through better strategies for self-examination and reducing the risk of melanoma.
By raising awareness of the dangers of unprotected UV exposure and encouraging sun protection habits, we can change behaviors and save lives. With the increasing incidence of this disease each year, we can not do this job alone. May is the month of melanoma and the perfect time to start getting involved.
