Former President John Dramani Mahama
The regional secretary of the Volta's National Democratic Congress (NEC) said that political party leaders in the region would soon sign a performance contract with his presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama.
James Gunu said the candidates in the general elections would also sign a performance contract with the constituency leaders and other stakeholders who would participate in the parliamentary and presidential elections next year.
Sending to reporters in Ho, he revealed that performance contracts would engage candidates and political party leaders to work effectively to garner more votes for the party in future ballots.
"The performance contract will set achievable goals for the political actors," he said.
The regional secretary said the performance contract would be based on the party's popular, constituency and regional election manifesto of 2020.
Mr Gunu pointed out that the performance contract would give additional meaning and participatory ownership to the 2020 party manifesto.
According to reports, the apathy of voters in the Volta region would have been described as the NDC's opposition bank in 2016, which would have resulted in the defeat of President John Mahama.
The party has vowed to right its wrongs to regain power in the 2020 elections.
According to Mr. Gunu, signing a performance contract "will also put an end to voter apathy and address the perception that the region is taken for granted after each election."
"Regardless of the region's request from the government, it would not be perceived as" too many requests "because each request will be based on the performance contract," he said.
"This will also give the region the opportunity to show its support and love for former President Mahama," he said.
Mr. Gunu said the performance contract would serve as a reference for the accelerated development of the region and would be owned and committed by all stakeholders.
According to him, he will have a monitoring and evaluation mechanism and reviewed every year to ensure that the party remains focused on its enviable development agenda for the region.
