After the Imagine Dragons were named Best Rock Artist Award winners at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, their activist leader took the opportunity to raise awareness of a pressing issue for the LGBTQ community.

Siding on his teammates at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Dan Reynolds has addressed the crowd about conversion therapy.

"34 countries still have no law prohibiting therapeutic conversation," Reynolds said. "Fifty-four percent of our LGBTQ population lives in these states."

Reynolds urged viewers to raise the issue with state lawmakers to protect LGBTQ youth, pointing out that people undergoing conversion therapy to change their badual orientation and gender identity are much more likely to be affected by depression and suicide.

"It must change," he said.

The singer of Imagine Dragons has been a strong supporter of this and other progressive causes in recent years.
