Emma Amnueke Kelvin John Pius scored for under-17s from Tanzania at the recent Africa Cup of Nations

Tanzanian coach Emmanuel Amuneke included Kelvin John Pius, 15, in his initial squad of 39 players for the Africa Cup of Nations.

John, nicknamed Mbappe in honor of French star Kylian, was impressed at the recent Under-17 African Nations Cup hosted by Tanzania last month.

Another young Claryo Boniface, under 20, is also on the list.

"I think it's time we start building a team and thinking about the future," Amuneke said.

"We need to start thinking about young people and see how we can start integrating them into the system."

John scored in Tanzania's first game after losing 5-4 to Nigeria, then against Uganda and Angola. The hosts failed to qualify for the semi-final of the tournament.

Amuneke also pointed out that Tanzania is organizing a qualifying match for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) against Sudan one week after the Nations Cup.

In addition to youth, the team includes both foreign-based players and those from local leagues for CHAN.

"The team is not only for Afcon, but also for CHAN," he explained.

"As a technical team, we plan to move directly to CHAN after Afcon."
