Workers complain about poor working conditions and wages
Secretary-General of the Ghana Mortuary Association, Richard Jordan, said the national strike later this week has been suspended.
According to the Secretary General, the badociation is about to begin negotiations with the Fair Salaries and Wages Committee today.
Speaking Wednesday in Eyewitness News, the secretary general said the Equitable Wages and Salaries Committee urged the Association to begin a negotiating process to resolve the issues constitutionally.
"We declared our intention for a nationwide strike, now … just two days ago, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission said we had to abide by the law. She invited the badociation to begin a negotiation process on Thursday. According to the laws of this country, you can not strike during the negotiations, which means that the strike must be suspended, "he said.
The Ghana Mortuary Workers Association (MOWAG) was expected to begin a second nationwide strike later this week.
According to the badociation, the strike aimed to express their dissatisfaction with what they described as reluctance of the government to respond to their demands.
Earlier this year, workers went on a similar strike to protest poor working conditions and wages.
