GENEVA (Reuters) – OPEC is trying to depoliticize the oil, said Thursday the secretary general of the group of coffee producers, quoted by the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum, following accusations of the oil company. Iran that the United States would use oil as a weapon against Tehran.
The United States demanded that Iranian oil buyers cease purchasing by early May, subject to sanctions, ending six months of waivers that allowed Iran's eight largest customers to become members of Iran. OPEC, mostly in Asia, to import limited volumes.
Iran's Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh warned on Wednesday that countries that use oil as a weapon would lead to the collapse of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.
OPEC Secretary General Mohammad Barkindo said at an oil and gas exhibition in the Iranian capital that "the OPEC is trying to depoliticize oil," the Iranian ministry reported on Twitter petrol.
"I told my colleagues at OPEC that you have to leave your pbadports at home when you report to this organization," Barkindo was quoted as saying.
