Akuse (E / R), May 2, GNA – The Volta
Authority governed by its Community Development Program (CDP) awarded 329
scholarships for students from its operational zone to access
education.
Of these, 95 students benefited
tertiary level, while 30 students succeeded
Graduates and 234 recipients had graduated from high school.
The program provides the framework
guide the support for the development of communities affected by the operations of the
Authority for bright but needy students, while empowering these communities
act for development.
The scheme aims to support the development of
human resources to contribute to the sustainability and growth of the
communities and give young people the opportunity to maximize their full potential
potential and contribute to the development of the nation.
Yaw Osei Adutwum, Deputy Minister of
head of general education, speaking at a ceremony to award scholarships to 50
higher education students in Akuse, Eastern Region, said the VRA initiative was aligned
in line with government policy to make education accessible through free programs for seniors
High School (SHS) to the citizens.
The scholarship for students is
worth 745,000 ¢ GH, covering the payment of tuition and accommodation.
He said the government was introducing the free
SHS policy had prompted other organizations to end their scholarship programs,
but praised VRA's efforts to maintain its brilliant profit regime
and less privileged in society.
The deputy minister said that education would help
to transform the socio-economic development of the country, hence the need to
government to make education the centerpiece of its transformation agenda.
He said that countries like Singapore, South Korea
and others have developed through a strong educational system, where
the majority of their young people had completed their higher education.
Dr. Adutwum said the introduction of double
track system was to answer all the disadvantaged students to have access to
education and congestion in the shortest possible time, calling on all
support the policy to succeed.
He congratulated the VRA for this initiative and urged
other business organizations to monitor and provide a holistic education for
especially disadvantage in society.
He advised the beneficiary to focus on
study and exit the program successfully and contribute their quota
to their communities and to the nation as a whole.
Mr Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, Director General
Officer of the VRA, stated that the Authority presented its first 50
students in 2011 as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations.
He said that the Authority had institutionalized the
after extensive stakeholder consultation, which led to the
development of the CDP framework document.
Mr. Antwi-Dankwa announced that Ms. Nancy
Adjwoa Pokua, third year in nursing at the University of
Cape Coast, a beneficiary of the traditional Osudoku region, was the first
