Dawhenya residents protest and burn tires on bad roads

The people of Dawhenya in Accra resorted to civil disobedience on Friday morning to get a good road network in their community.

Many residents of the Dawhenya-Afienya link burned car tires and blocked roads as part of a protest to force the government to consider their demands for improved roads.

Protesters say that dust on bad roads causes them health problems.

"The bad road also collapses our business because motorists do not use it," lamented one of the protesters.

They ask the government to respond to their call in 14 days or they "would meet again and advise".

"This one is only the beginning and was meant to send a message," said a prominent member of Protestant youth.

CitiNews reports that the Ningo-Prampram MP, Samuel Nartey George, is in solidarity with the youth of the region, accusing the government of the poor road network in his constituency.

"He also threatened to join his constituents to demonstrate again if their concerns are not addressed," the media reported.
