The spectacular title race between Liverpool and Manchester City should take place until the last day of the season … and a series of unlikely results could even go further.

With two games to play each, City currently leads Liverpool with one point and has a goal difference of over four.

If both teams ended the campaign level of 38 games with points, the title would be decided against the goal difference. If these scores were also equal, the next way to separate them would be based on the goals scored. But what if they still can not be divided?

If City and Liverpool finish the season with the same number of points and goals for and against the records, the title will be decided by a single match against a neutral venue – a Premier League Cup final.

THAT COULD NOT ARRIVE, IT IS POSSIBLE?

Liverpool and City will put an end to the off-season in these four results, forcing them to play in the Premier League title:

Newcastle 1-7 Liverpool

City 0-2 Leicester

Brighton 0-4 City

Liverpool 3-3 Wolves

This is unlikely but it could happen. For example, if City wins a match and loses one of their last two games and Liverpool scores four, both teams will stop at 95.

Both records should be identical in goal categories scored and conceded to play the playoffs.

A fanciful scenario that would see both teams end the dead end of the season is a 2-0 defeat by Leicester and a 4-0 loss to Brighton, while Liverpool's 7-1 draw was marked by a draw 3- 3 with the Wolves.
