A mafia-related career criminal has already been accused of beating a former cast member of RHONJ and her fiance after being introduced to their home in 2017.
James "Jimmy Balls" Mainello, 51, was arrested at his home in Bayonne on Friday nearly two years after the bizarre attack during which "an Italian-accented North Jersey" told the pair: "That's what happens when you f * ** with people from Paterson."
Monmouth County prosecutors said Mainello and another man were on the lookout in David Cantin's home on Banyan Boulevard on May 13, 2017, when Cantin and Dina Manzo were stunned by two badailants who have crossed their front door.
Cantin said that he had been beaten with a baseball bat, breaking his nose, while the other badailant had pushed Manzo against a wall and covered his mouth. Manzo said that he then pushed her to the ground and kicked her, according to the probable cause affidavit against Mainello.
Manzo said that the man then took his engagement ring from his finger and sent him this threatening greeting from Paterson.
Prosecutors did not say publicly that they knew what had motivated the attack.
The victims told the police that the thieves had tied them up and left after taking $ 500 in cash from Cantin's wallet.
Cantin told the police that he could not identify the couple because they were wearing hats with bandanas on their faces. He described one of the men as being "an italian with North Jersey accent".
Cantin was released and called the police around 22:54. He and Manzo were hospitalized.
In a joint statement released Friday by the couple's lawyer, Cantin and Manzo said "to be very grateful to the law enforcement authorities in New Jersey, whose diligent investigation at the the past two years has resulted in the arrest of today ".
"Thanks to all those who have expressed concern for our well-being, we have such a strong support system," they said.
On Friday, prosecutors did not explain how they could identify Mainello as a suspect. They also did not say they had identified the second thief.
In New Jersey, Mainello has been convicted of criminal convictions since the late 1980s. He was notably sentenced to burglary to a nine-year sentence in 1994. In 2005, New York's federal attorneys linked to a plot of robbery organized to sentence him. He was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison and then placed under house arrest for three months in 2009 after violating the conditions of his probation release.
A federal judge also ordered Mainello not to "badociate with any member or badociate of the Luchese organized crime family" nor to any mafia group.
New Jersey 101.5 did not know Friday if Mainello had a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.

Manzo, whose legal name is Claudine, appeared in the first two seasons of Bravo's reality TV show with her sister, Caroline. She came back in 2014. Her Facebook profile shows her last name, Cantin, but the couple did not specify whether they married or not.
Manzo grew up in Wayne and many members of the series cast are from Pbadaic County.
