REAL MADRID reportedly agreed to pay £ 51 million to Luka Jovic, a prodigy of Eintracht Frankfurt.
It will be a blow for Chelsea, who was supposed to plan a summer swoop.
Spanish newspaper AS reports that Frankfurt will pay 41 million pounds, of which 10 million go to its former club Benfica because of the 20% sales clause.
The 21-year-old is expected to sign a six-year contract with Bernabeu.
Jovic only joined the German club in April, after they had decided to make his move permanent.
It is thought that he joined for just 5 million pounds.
The Serb was on the radar of Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri this summer, depending on the transfer ban.
And scoring a goal for Frankfurt against Chelsea in their UEFA Europa League semi-final first leg match will have only impressed the Italian gaffer.
According to Alfredo Pedulla, Sarri is a big fan and considers Jovic as one of the best strikers in Europe.
The Italian boss would have been willing to pay the £ 51 million needed to see him in blue.
Jovic, 21, has scored 26 goals in all competitions this season.
