Frank Lampard, the boss of Derby County, said that getting to the play-offs would be one of his biggest successes, so his team can get sixth place Sunday.
The qualification is in the hands of the Rams and they will be among the top six in the championship when they beat West Bromwich Albion.
But if Derby failed, a win for Middlesbrough would put Tony Pulis' team in sixth, while Bristol City, eighth, could also progress.
The Robins must beat Hull, hoping Derby will lose and Boro will not win.
"It would be an incredible feat for players to get there this year, with the competition around us," Lampard said. "I know the players will give everything, it's a great opportunity.
"I know it's the play-offs, so I do not want it to sound like a win, but it would be one of my greatest achievements, because it's my first year.
"For me personally, it would make me happy. This does not mean that the work is finished. The next thing to do is we can be a success in the play-offs? But I would be delighted if we crossed the line . "
County would also finish sixth if both teams draw while Boro fails to win and Bristol City does not win by eight or more goals, or if the Rams lose by less than seven goals while none of theirs rivals do not win.
All games on the last day of the championship will start at 12:30 BST Sunday, before the semifinals of second place playoffs start this Saturday, May 11th.
Lampard added to BBC Radio Derby: "The players have put us in the position where we are in the lead position for sixth place. It is ours now.Everything is there, it is clear what we need to do . "
"To worry about the other results does not matter" – Pulis
Derby could have won sixth place – and put an end to City's chances – on Wednesday when he had won at Swansea City, but the Welsh turned to get a 1-1 draw.
That means the fans of the three playoff clubs could be glued to their phones Sunday afternoon, but Boro boss Tony Pulis said he would not try to know the scores of the other matches.
"Talking about what West Brom, Derby, Bristol City and Hull are going to do is irrelevant," Pulis told BBC Tees. "Let's play very well, let's hope we win, and let's look at it then.
"I'll be really focused on the game and then you'll have that excitement after that or you'll have that disappointment, and I'd rather it be that way, myself, and with everything that's going on, I'm focusing on one thing.
"When we played Bolton [on 9 April] we had six games left and told players that we had to win five out of six to give ourselves a chance. We won four out of five, so that's it. It came down to that.
"I hope and pray that we arrive on Sunday morning and that the guys give it all they have."
"We must give ourselves all our chances" – Johnson
Bristol City came from behind to win at Millwall on Tuesday and keep his dream in the top six after losing at home against Derby last Saturday.
"It's good for the football club, we postponed the last day," said Robins head coach Lee Johnson at BBC Radio Bristol.
"We will always look back at those little moments that we thought could have changed course, but we are in the game.
"This element of frustration also exists, we are very close and some things did not go well, in terms of decisions that were made for or against us, or last-minute goals that were our fault.
"We have to do our job, we have to give every chance to the other teams to let go." The big goal and big dream is to bring Premier League football into the city.
"I want to get 72 points, it would be a big effort from us at the beginning of the season, if that were enough, I would be delighted to participate in the play-offs."
Who needs what to finish sixth?
Derby will reach the play-offs:
