BREAKING: Chris Jericho returns to NJPW and takes on IWGP title challenge

The last reign of Kazuchika Okada as heavyweight champion IWGP took an incredible start at the NJPW's NJPW Wrestling Dontaku, while The Rainmaker narrowly defeated SANADA of Los Ingobernables of Japan in a nearly 40-minute war for the most prestigious title in professional wrestling.

Shortly after his victory, however, the champion was interrupted at mid-celebration by a strange and unexpected message on the big screen … Chris Jericho!

The six-time WWE World Champion lost no time in publicizing his intentions and launched a challenge for the IWGP title at the second-biggest event of the year, New Japan – the NJPW Dominion, return to Osaka Jo-Hall on Sunday, June 9th.

Although physically exhausted after enduring one of his fiercest recent memory battles, Okada graciously accepted Jericho's challenge, which made the fight official. It will be the first time these two incredible warriors will face each other, pitting one of the biggest superstars in the history of sports entertainment against that of the greatest IWGP champion ever seen by Japan.

For those who wonder, Jericho is under contract with All Elite Wrestling and will still be leading the next AEW Double or Nothing event with Kenny Omega in Las Vegas later this month. His contract, like Omega, allows him to accept reservations directly with New Japan without the promotion having to go through the office to negotiate terms.
