Maid of the Mist battery powered tourism boats

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – Maid of the Mist boats that bring tourists to the Niagara Falls base go on electricity.

The company announced Friday its intention to launch two zero-emission pbadenger ships during the upcoming tourist season. The boats will be powered by high capacity batteries.

The new vessels are expected to enter service in mid-September and replace the existing diesel-powered vessels that will operate on the Lower Niagara River.

The Swiss technology company ABB supplies the lithium-ion battery packs and a terrestrial charging system. The batteries will be recharged for seven minutes after each trip.

The good of the haze was launched in 1846.
