BOST will build pipelines to reduce fuel transportation costs

Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST) is about to build pipelines for the distribution of petroleum products in Ghana in order to reduce the costs badociated with the use of road transport.

The Tema-Akosombo-Kumasi pipelines, once fully operational, will enable BOST to save more than 60% of the cost of transporting products throughout the country.

The contract for the first phase, from Tema to Akosombo, has already been awarded to a contractor.

Graphic Online brings together the procurement process for the second phase of Akosombo in Kumasi that will begin by the end of May 2019.

A very well-placed source at BOST told Graphic Online that the current management had obtained the release of certain pipes blocked in Houston in the United States of America (US) for 12 years.

The pipes were transferred to Louisiana also in the United States for cleaning, after which they would be brought to Ghana.

BOST, according to the source, is eager to complete the pipeline project to alleviate the stress badociated with transporting fuel through road transport.

Carbon credit

Again, carbon footprints badociated with road fuel transportation would be eliminated to allow BOST to apply for a carbon credit.

The carbon credit is a permit that allows a country or organization to produce a certain amount of carbon and that can be exchanged if the entire allocation is not used.

According to the source, the transportation of pipeline products was cost-effective compared to other alternatives.

"BOST will save a lot of resources if the pipeline project is implemented because the current use of road transport is very expensive," the source said.

BOST has introduced many innovative methods for companies, including the pipeline project.

Gas complex

Another of these innovations is the construction of gas complexes in some parts of the country.

The gas complexes will be cited in Tema, Takoradi, Buipe and Kumasi.

The project will be built on a construction, operation and transfer (BOT) basis.

The procurement process for its launch would also soon begin.

The source said: "In all these vigilance measures, it is important, that is why we do not want to rush to do anything because the interest of Ghana is important"
