May 4 (Reuters) – A volley from Leander Dendoncker allowed the Wolverhampton Wanderers to defeat Fulham 1-0 on Saturday in Molineux, placing them on the verge of seventh in the Premier League.
The Wolves have four points ahead of Everton to finish eighth in the standings. If Leicester City, ninth, does not beat Manchester City on Monday night, the leading newcomers will be badured of their best performance in the Premier League era.
Fulham, already relegated to the score, entered the competition after winning his last three games and frustrated his opponents very early.
Dendoncker was closest to scoring in the first half but saw his header coming off the crossbar.
The wolves improved after the break and Dendoncker's staggering volley helped to break the deadlock 15 minutes from the end.
A brilliant rescue of Sergio Rico deprived Diogo Jota of one second, but Wolves saw the victory come closer to qualify for the Europa League next season.
