An article from the University of Auckland reveals that, compared to sugar in solid foods, sugar in beverages presents a higher risk of chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes.

This is because of the higher concentration and speed that the dissolved sugar is metabolized.
Dr. Gerhard Sundborn, co-author, explains that it makes sense therefore to ban sugar in drinks first, as it is more harmful.
He says that sugar in drinks contributes about a quarter of the sugar in the children's diet.
