Samuel Nartey George, Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram
Ningo Prampram MP Samuel Nartey George said he would join his constituents in demonstrating if the work does not begin on the road from Dawhenya to Afienya.
The people of Dawhenya, in the Greater Accra region, gave the government 14 days to repair the deplorable character of the road.
About Eyewitness News, the MP said Friday he had done everything in his power to repair the road, but all his attempts fell on deaf ears.
"In two weeks, I will join the member of my riding because Parliament is suspended and all my parliamentary options have been exhausted."
"This road is a road that has transcended the government, from the NDC to the NPP, through the NDC and now the NPP. This road has been in poor condition for more than 20 years. As a member of Parliament, I asked questions of Parliament asking the minister to come and set deadlines. He gave deadlines but he did not meet deadlines "
He said that in October 2017, he had been able to convince the minister and his entire department to continue work on the road, but these had been suspended for political reasons.
"In October 2017, I was able to get the minister and the entire department. the minister his two deputies, the director of urban roads, the director of highways coming to the site and look at the road. The contractor has been on the road for years, so let's ask why he is not working. "
"It's simple, it's funding, and it's short of funds. People in the riding do politics with the road they have. If they repair this road, it will be said that where Sam George stands, they repaired it, so Sam George would probably win the elections, "he said.
Scores of residents in Dawhenya in the Greater Accra region today [Friday] took to the streets to protest against the faintness of the road from Dawhenya to Afienya.
They burned tires and blocked the road with a container as part of their protest.
They lamented negligence and broken promises to successive governments and legislators.
"The road has been in bad shape for about 27 years now. Presidents come to make promises but they never fill them. Even our members here have come to promise us so many times, but they have never done it. "
"Our health is more important. the road really kills us. Dust on the road kills us, "said a resident at Citi News.
