Tijuana clinches last place in the Liga MX: Tijuana clinching the return leg of the title between Club America and Cruz Azul, probably in the quarter-finals

The Liguilla Liguilla MX is set after Tijuana beat Puebla 4-0 on Saturday to retain last place in the playoffs.

Puebla had the ball in the net in the first half, but the goal was dismissed by VAR as he hit Lucas Cavalini's arm before he lowered it and finished it. The teams have entered the break level.

The local team was able to clear their way in the second half after Vladimir Lorona was sent off in the 53rd minute for a tackle against Tijuana striker Ariel Nahuelpan. Four minutes later, Tijuana took advantage thanks to a goal from Diego Braghieri. Miller Bolanos added a second two minutes later. Xolos scored two more goals against Puebla.

This earned Tijuana the eighth and final seed of the playoffs, under the direction of Oscar Pareja. The former FC Dallas coach arrived at the Border Club in the winter after Diego Cocca failed to qualify for the playoffs at Apertura.

"I'm really happy to be able to give this first Liguilla to Tijuana, to the club, to the fans, we are really proud, the players are happy, we played a really tough game with all the context of the game, but I think we have did a good job, especially in the second half, "said Pareja after the match.

Leon and Tigres came in the last weekend of the regular season knowing that they were stuck in first and second places respectively. Monterrey entered the weekend as the third team and will likely sew this place on Sunday. Monterrey is in action against Atlas.

As long as the Rayados do not lose four goals or more, their place in third place will be badured. That would mean a first-round match against Necaxa, sixth.

It would also set up a Clasico Joven in the quarterfinals between Cruz Azul and Club America. Both Mexico teams played in the MX Liga final at the previous tournament.

If Rayados avoids an Atlas rout, the playoffs will look like this:

(1) Leon against (8) Tijuana

(2) UANL vs Tigers Pachuca

(3) Monterrey against (6) Necaxa

(4) Cruz Azul against (5) Club America

The top ranked team hosts the second leg of the series with goals away, the first tiebreaker and the second tiebreaker, a better finish in the regular season.

The league will announce the dates and times of each series on Monday.
